Huxley’s Personal Copies of Crome Yellow and Mortal Coils

Highlights of Huxley's library

The Zurich Huxley Centre is fortunate to own four of Huxley’s personal copies of his own works. Among them is a leather-bound personal copy of his first novel, Crome Yellow, and his second collection of short stories, Mortal Coils, presented to him by his American publisher, George H. Doran.

The following is an excerpt from a letter from Huxley to Doran:

«I have just received from New York two magnificently bound copies of Crome Yellow and Mortal Coils. I am glad that I shall soon have the opportunity of thanking you in person for this delightful Christmas present.»

The only existing copies of these leather-bound works are those at the Zurich Huxley Centre.
