Lawrence must have presented the Huxleys with quite a number of his works in first edition with a dedication, seeing that Maria Huxley typed the manuscript of one of his main works, Lady Chatterley’s Lover.
Unfortunately, Huxley’s library burned down in 1961 and only two of these works survive. Pansies, a volume of poetry, may be the only book in existence containing a dedication from Lawrence to Aldous and Maria Huxley; Lawrence wrote it in 1928, two years before he died in Maria Huxley’s arms.
